MAPS Testing Information
Measure of Academic Progress
Mrs. Pieschek’s class takes the test:
Wednesday, September 28th, 2016
Friday, September 30th, 2016
Information about the test:
This test is quite different than most standardized tests. It is computerized and meant to figure out your child’s level in Reading and Math. With this in mind, your child will find some questions to be extremely difficult and others to be quite easy. Depending on your child’s answer, the computer will give a question to match the ability. Your child has to think through each question and guess on the questions that are too difficult. However, your child should not just guess after reading the problem once. We’ve talked about reading the story, then the question, and if they know the answer, great. If they don’t know the answer right away, they should reread the story and think for a moment before guessing. We don’t want them to guess right away because they will often understand it after they reread it. In addition, they go with their first “gut feeling” about what which answer is right, because in many cases this is the correct answer.
To help your child prepare for the test and relax during the test,
I recommend that your child:

To help your child prepare for the test and relax during the test,
I recommend that your child:
- Eats a healthy breakfast. (Protein helps the brain!)
- Bring a healthy snack and water bottle. Please send only healthy snacks. (Some good ideas are: beef sticks, beef jerky, peanuts, peanut butter with crackers or apples.)
- Get ten hours of sleep the night before each test. (Parents, you may want to spend time reading and relaxing with your child to help get your child to bed early. Please remind them that they are “super-duper” smart and they will do terrific on the test!)
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs. Pieschek
